Today we decided to take an adventure and explore some more of the island of Hvar. This lead us to catching a bus to the town of Jelsa ("yell-suh). The bus ride was unbelievably, miserably hot, but cheap! :) We did lots of walking along the coast and checking things out. We stopped at a swim spot and stayed for a bit. There was a group of kids here playing in the water, and they were "sling-shot-ing" each other into the water using their towels. I got some fun pictures of them in action. We even joined in some of the fun jumping into the water and trying to do flips, haha. AND I discovered burst mode on my camera! AMAZING! We found a busy little area of shops and AJ bought the wonderful Hello Kitty mini/handheld fan. Yes, he used the strap to wear it like a necklace. Priceless.
After that stop, we walked a loooooonnngggg way around the island until we came to another town, and it was Vrboska ("ver-bOs-kuh")... It was a sleepy little place, but great scenery. And we found a deli to stop for a snack. From there, we caught the bus back to Hvar town. Dinner that night was at a restaurant tucked up on the hill on the way down to the harbor from the hostel. I don't remember what I got, but AJ got some sort of "octopus pasta" or something... all I know is the pasta sauce was black and inky looking! Very cool. Of course, we stopped at another place to get crepes for dessert. How I will miss crepes when I go home... they just aren't the same.
Ideas for how to celebrate the 4th of July from Croatia? :)
